| General FAQ |
| Question: Why do I need to register? |
ANSWER: You do not need to register to view the Photo Gallery. Registration does however, allow you to upload images to the Visitor's gallery, build and view a list of your favourite gallery images and post comments. |
| Question: How do I register? |
ANSWER: Click on "Register" in the text menu at the top of the page and fill out the required fields in the resulting registration form. Upon registering, you will also be registered to take part in the Mysterious New Zealand Discussion Forums. If you have previously registered to use the Forums, you will have automatically been registered for the Photo Gallery (and vice versa). You do not need to remember two different usernames and two different passwords, as your username and password for the Photo Gallery and the Forums are one and the same.
When you register, you will be required to activate your membership. It is important to supply an accurate email address, as once you complete the registration process, you will be sent an email giving you instructions on how to activate your membership. Your membership must be activated in order for you to login and begin using the Gallery and the Forums. |
| Question: How do I login? |
ANSWER: Click on "Login" in the text menu at the top of the page, and submit your username and password on the resulting login page. If you tick "Log me on automatically each visit:", you will already be logged in on subsequent visits and do not need to login again.
IMPORTANT: In order for "Log me on automatically each visit:" to work, cookies must be enabled and the cookie from this site must not be deleted. If the cookie is deleted (for example, by a cookie removal application), you will need to login next time you visit the site, but may, once again, elect to be automatically logged in on your return. |
| Question: Why can't I login? |
ANSWER: In order to login, you must first have registered as a user and clicked the link that was sent to you via email, thus activating your account. For other login problems contact the site administrator. |
| Question: What if I have forgotten my password? |
ANSWER: If you forget your password, the site can email your password to you (another reason why you must supply an accurate email address upon registration). Go to the Login page and click on "I have forgotten my password".
IMPORTANT: Please do not ask the site administrators to tell you your password - your password is private and known only to you and cannot be accessed by us.
If you continue to experience problems, the administrators can supply you with a new password, which you may then modify later in your Profile settings. |
| Question: How do I save a picture to "My Favourites"? |
ANSWER: Click on a thumbnail/picture, to view the largest version. You should see a series of control buttons at the top left and top right of the image table. Click on the "picture info" link to display and hide file information. Scroll down to the picture information set and click "Add to Favourites".
IMPORTANT: In order to build and use a Favourites List, cookies must be enabled and the cookie from this site must not be deleted. |
| Question: How do I comment on an image? |
ANSWER: Click on a thumbnail/picture to view the largest version. Scroll down to the comments box (the field with the row of 'Smilies' across the bottom). Enter your comment in the form field and click on the OK button on the right hand side. |
| Question: Where do I upload an image to? |
ANSWER: Users may upload images to the Visitor's Gallery. All user uploads, must be approved on upload by the site administrators. Once you have uploaded a file, you will not be able to view it in the Photo Gallery, until the administrators have approved it and activated it to display. |
| Question: What type and size of a file can I upload? |
ANSWER: Web file format image files such as GIF, JPG and PNG (pronounced 'ping') files are accepted. The site administrator sets the maximum file size allowed. The current file size limit is displayed in the file upload window. |
| Question: What are cookies? |
ANSWER: Cookies are a plain text piece of data that is sent from a website and is stored on your computer. Cookies usually allow a user to leave and return to the site without having to login again. They also allow you to build and view a favourites list, remembering your settings and preferences. |
| Question: How can I save images from the Gallery or use them on another web site? |
ANSWER: The images on the Photo Gallery are subject to copyright. You are not permitted to save or use images without the permission of the site administrators/copyright holders. Remote linking to images on this site directly from other sites has also been disabled - any attempts to display images from the gallery on other sites (and thereby using this site's bandwidth to do so) will not work and will result in the display of a broken link icon.
If you feel you have a very good reason for wanting to use an image on another web site, please contact the site administrators and such requests will be considered on a case by case basis. In special cases, you may gain approval to use an image bearing a copyright notice with the inclusion of a direct link to the Mysterious New Zealand web site. |
